A quick stay on the English Channel

I have always found the Channel / La Manche quite fascinating. Growing up not too far from it, it was relatively easy to spend one day there and go back home the same day. Those pictures are from Asnelles, just east of Arromanches. This picture is in early June when the coast is not yet crowded and the sea could still be somewhat chilly, But again, perhaps that is what makes the Channel charming.

There is obviously much more than the Channel, there is history beyond that horizon. One can see some remains of the Atlantic Wall and this section of Arromanches is only one small area of historical facts. I think The dday-overlord, Battle of Normandy website is quite comprehensive to reveal what happened there in June 6, 1944.

That day I walked the 3+ kms to Arromanches further ahead right about the center of the photo. I did not spend too much time in Arromanches, just enough to get a wonderful 'flan' at my favorite patisserie and escape the crowd. I do not fancy the beaches when they become too touristic where untasteful museums are opened one after the other.

En Dordogne

This quaint little auberge was a nice place to spend the night. There was no one else but us. Well, it was off season so this could explain it.

Arriving at Limeuil, the Dordogne was slightly swollen. We sat by the river for a picnic before exploring what the town had to offer. Limeuil is quaint and picturesque. Certainly, a site for artisans, but rather calm off season. Limeuil is quaint and picturesque. Certainly, a site for artisans, but rather calm off season.

The upper Rocamadour is certainly impressive. Unless one enjoys tourism at its best then visiting the lower part of the town is the thing to do. It is full of shops and restaurants, and I can't imagine this site in the summer.

Saturday morning in Sarlat la Caneda, it is the rendez vous a the market time. Lots to look at, local food of course such as foie gras, pate, cheeses of many kind, walnut oil, etc. Locals meet and chat and all is well really, at least from our point of view. Besides the market, it was a must to explore the town.

Lower-Normandy

My cousin and I spent few hours on four wheels, getting dirty and dusty. It sometimes is a good idea for fun.

We met at a local farm, ExtremMoto
at St. Germain de la Coudre, Orne.

A business concept on a farm where the main barn had been entirely restored and transformed into Les Secrets de Jeanne, one nice picturesque crêperie.
